Description: Grows to about 2 inches long with a ruby red coloring on its posterior and anterior. Habitats: Endemic to the Hawaiian islands and lives in reefs or tidepools in the shallow waters Diet: The Hawaiian Ruby Cardinal Fish feeds off other small fish and aquatic worms that live in the reef.

Zoology Features: The Hawaiian Ruby Cardinal fish is a deuterostome and is a triploblastic organization. It has a bilateral symmetry Basic Growth and Developmental Cycles: Hawaiian Ruby Cardinal fish spawn releasing thousands of eggs. These eggs are then covered by sand or gravel. In 2-3 months they hatch as an Alevin. An Alevin is a a baby fish that has the yolk of the egg to feed it for 2 months. After 2 months the Alevin grows into Fry, then to Smolt, which can be compared to a young adult in human growth. After rapid growth, the Hawaiian Ruby Cardinal fish reaches adulthood.
