Description:

The Feather Duster Worm lives up to its name. Its translucent orange tinged body tube is filled with proteins and nutrients. The worm’s tentacles (thier sensory system)  float through the area above its home and are only pulled in as a precaution. It can reach up to 25 cm meters long as its maximum size.

Habitats: The Feather Duster worm is found along the coasts of Hawaii.

Diet: Lives off of plankton and small particles floating through the ocean.

 

Zoology Features: The Feather Duster worm is comprised of tentacles that float for food. This worm has an internal rod that controls all of the tentacles, rather than a skeleton. It has radial symmetry and is a a protostome organism. It is also a disploblastic organization.

Basic Growth and Developmental Cycles: The family Sabellidae have a larval life cycle. The larval stage is a free  micro living organism, which becomes the adult form.
